today i learnt that young male lizards get ahead in life by imitating females
they delay their onset of colour to a more convenient time (colouration is a sign of maturity)
in doing so they protect themselves from older and aggressive male lizards
essentially they strive for femininity over masculinty in becoming 'lizard transvestites'
haha. i learnt the same thing about fish about 3 days ago. except the adolescent fish compete with the mature fish by pretending to be female, and as the mature fish come by to fertilize the female fish, the imitators shoot their sperm up towards the female fish and win!
